Eccleton, of the Lceston ,Club, took part in the Maddi.sor Trophy singles competition in Christchurch on Thursday•' In i-Lc 'first round Eccleton beat Wilson (Kaiapoi) by 20 to 12, but in the second round he was defeated by Spiller (Sydenham) by 24 to 13. Number 13 is regarded by raauybowlers as a deidedly "unlacky number. It was so in Eccleton's case on Thursday, for he remained on the 13 for several heads. JBurgess (Dunsandel) was defeated in the second round by Herd (EdgCAvare) 19-14.
