It is with very little pleasure, indeed, that we have to refer to the Kev Mr Milno again, but Mr -Lo Lilian's letter demands it, or for us to lay under the stigma of pur. posely, and with malice, having raised a question, or rather a bone of contention. Urged on by a correspondent we referred to what we then thought— and for the matter of that, still think —the very unfortunate reference of the Kev Mr.Milne to the system of the Roman Catholic priests in evangelising the savage. In so far as falsely representing Mr Milne, or ot putting a wrong construe, tion on his words, we hold ourselves to fca whole and sole judge of our actions or intentions j indeed, nothing was further from our thoughts than to convey a wrong impression. A reference was made by Mr Milue to certain persecutions, and cited them as an extra reason why the British Government should take over the management of the islands. In our para, graph we merely suggested that the rev. gentleman in the future should eschew all reference to the very disagreeable subject, and for which we are misjudged. rfe can only asseverate that nothing was further from our thoughts than the raising of any feeling of antagonism between parties, and and we feel hurt to think that such a charge could be laid at our doors.
