HOME AND FOREIGN. London, December 16. Important disclosures have oeen made to the police authorities in Dublin regarding the recent outrages upon the detectives and others in that city. Evidencehaa been obtained from informers, and is of such a character as to cause the Executive to order strict inquiry. This will he held forthwith and some startling revelations as to the state of Dublin are anticipated. The homeward Au-tralian and New Zea* land mails via San Franeiseo, whi -h left Auckland on November 7, were delivered here to-day. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2 330,000 quarters. December 18. A fire broke out on board the Orient steamship Cotopaxi last night while she was lying in the Albert dock, and had obtained such a hold upon the vessel before it was discovered that the interior is completely gutted. Another of the Liggins family has been found guilty add sentenced to death for the Lough Mask murder. The principal native chiefs in Dunn’s Land are staid to be in favour of retoration cf Getewayo. ‘ The Fenians are threatening to burn down the public buildings in London in re--venge for the execution of the Maantrasna murderers. Sir Anthony Musgrave, Governor of Jamaica, is soliciting relief in England for the sufferers by the Kingston fire. An extensive police raid has been made on the places of meeting of secret societies in Dublin, but very few discoveries of any importance were made. ' The people of Manchester are unanimous in their determination to persevere with the scheme for constructing a ship canal to connect the city with the river Mersey, their object being to secure the advantages of ■direct sea communication without, as at present, having to receive and send their good via Liverpool. It has been decided that the colonial -banks having their head offices in London must collect income tax on deposits from ■their customersAt the fire at the Alhambia Theatre several firenen engaged in extinguishing the flames were killed by the falling of burning material. The Prussian ChanA-er of Denuties has ■voted a sum of 1,000,000 marks towards the fund formed for the relief of the sufferers by the recent inundations. The military activity of Russia on her German and Austrian frontiers ocoasions serious uneasiness in political circles through -out Europe. Mr Parnell, speaking at Cork, admitted that the Arrears Act had afforded relief, and -had Been of benefit to 100, 00 tenants, and to the extent of £3,000,000. Since t&e League agitation had commenced the total relief secured amounted to £6,000,000 reduction of rents. The damage done by the fire on the Cotopaxi is estimated at £20,000. Thousands of people in the counties of ■Mayo and Donegal are almost starved. . Gimbetta is now reported as suffering -severely and being seriously ill.
