The gun, we ara in forme 1, is a nearly new central tire hi ea- hj loader with fittings perfect in case. As the sale is by order of the agent of the Public Trustee it is unreserved. Thomas Webb, Junk.— The Daily Tim a of the 21st. inst., says:-Young Webb, the lad whose feet were amputated about a week ago, is still in the Hospital, and progressing slowly towards recovery. It is feared that he will not be able to use his hands for some time, they were so severely frostbitten, and all the muscles have been more or less contracted. Generous Employers. The Union Bank of Australia, which recently declared the very handsome dividend of 16 per cent, per annum on its capital for the half-year cudi ng 30th June last, has decided, as evincing its appreciation of the services of the staff, whose efforts have in no small degree contributed to this very satisfactory result to give a bonus to all the officers at the rates ot 10 per cent, on their salaries. Amusements at Blacks.— To day will be a gala day in the Blacks district. The ploughing match in Airs. Sinnamon’s paddock, Ida Valley, is to be the attraction durmg the day, with a concert in the evening at Blacks, m the school house in aid of the Duns tan District Hospital and a ball to nnish up with. From the preparations hein" made by the various committees we shall expect to see a large attendance. New Resident-Surgeon.— lt will he seen by the report of the meeting of the Committee of the Dunstan District Hospital that J. A. Wardale of Waian, in the Marlborough Province, has been elec'ed to fill the post of Resident Surgeon vice Dr. P'\ War(lale passed his degrees and obtained his diplomas in the Royal College ourgeons, London, and comes to us with the character of a skilful surgeon, and a steady energetic gentleman ; the district m«ay therefore be congratulated. Lawyers and Lawyers.— The serene atmosphere of the Legislative Council was temporarily disturbed the other afternoon by a little squabble. Mr Reynolds, in the discussion on the Law Practitioners Bill had asserted that more disreputable persona could not be found than some of those connected with the law. Mr Buckley considered this remark an insult to the le<ml profession, and wanted the words taken down • but the Attorney General declared hj aonin-’ ion that that the statement was unhappilv only t° true. After this observation from the head of the legal profession in the Colony, there was a manifest disinclination to puisne the subject further, and it was allowed to drop.
