I*o one sincrle case within our recollection called for a heartier expression of sympathy, or appealed more directly to the generosityof an ever - willing public, than does that of the lad Webb, who is now lyin' in the Dunedin Hospital, with the loss of both feet, caused through frost bite during a five days’ exposure in the Knobby Ranges when conveying provisions to a party ot rabbiters. At one time it was thought both hands would also have been lost, but happily we are able to say tney win do saved, but at present it is hard to say if they will be of ;;ny use to him to earn his livelihood. It has suggested itself to us to appeal to the public on the lad’s behalf, but in such a manner that none wi 1 feel it a tax on them. Our suggestion is > o make a general, country-wide, shilling subscription, the result to he ves d in tie hands of trustees, and for them in their wisdom to deal with it ; a they may deem best. We cordially invite the co-opeiation of any gentlemen who may be inclined to assist us.
