DUNSTAN JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of members of the above wa held in the committee room, Clyde Library, •on last Monday evening, the Slat ult. Fifteen gentlemen were in attendance, and Mr. John Campbell was voted to the chair. The chairman said the meeting was called to consider whether the Club should hold its customary annual Spring meeting, For his own part he saw no reason why they should not. The last two meetings had
been specially successful, and there was nothing he knew of to. prevent a meeting in 1882 being "qally an. Mr. J. S. Dickie brought up the financial statement, which shone I that the Club was now clear of debt, mid had as assets the grand Stand and coarse., ■Congratulations poured in from all sides at the satisfactory and healthy state of the Club. " Resolved: That the Pnnstan Jockey Club have their annual Spring meeting in 1882. The question of data now arose, during which it transpired that Cromwell had this year decided on holding a Spring meeting, and had fixed upon Friday, October G, Alexandra had selected Thursday, September 28, with J:he view of the Clyde meeting being on the following Tuesdav or Wednesday, so as to come in between the two. The generally expressed opinion was that to rush the three meetings through in eight days would be to make one or all a failure. And that it was in very had taste for the Cromwell Club, because they this year determined on having a meeting, to have fixed their date without first consulting Alexandra and Dunstan Clubs, as the fact was well known to them that for years past the rule fond been for Alexandra to start the Spring meetings to be followed by the Dunstan Club, and then on up the Olutha to Pembroke, which closed the Spring meetings. It anpeared as if they wanted to have the guiding of a 1 i he mee • mgs. After further discussion it was resolved : That the secretary write to the Alexandra Chib and ask them to alter their date to the 22ud September, and to explain that if they would not do so, the Dunstan Club would hold their races on that day and thus come in the first meeting.
Officers and Committee of the meeting were then appointed, and • the collectors were requested to make their canvass quickly, so that no time would be lost in drawing out a programme.
A subscription list was opened in the room, and nearly £2O was promised. The meeting then adjourned.
