DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
An extraordinary special meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Committee Rooms, Town Hall, on Friday afternoon last, the 28th inst., at 4 p.m. Present: Messrs. J. Stevens, Vice-Presi-dent ; Holt, Clark, Dickie, Treasurer ; and G. Fache, Secretary. The Vice-President said : Having been informed of certain irregularities on the part of Dr. Foot, the Resident Surgeon, he visited the institution yesterday evening, the 27th inst., and there learnt that such irregularities did exist. And he deemed it best, in the interests of the institution, to convene ‘iffie present meeting. He said he had visited the wards and from the patients learnt that Dr. Foot was neglecting his duties,—three or four days intervening be■'"tween his visits. Mr. Holttaid that, in company with Mr. Cambridge, as... members of tbe Visiting Committee,' tbey had visited the Hospital ■yesterday afternoon, and could fully bear ■out the statement of the Vice-President as to, the irregularities on the part of the surgeon. Resolved : That a sub-committee, consisting of the Vice-President, Treasurer, and 'Secretary be appointed to visit the Hospital, to fully investigate into the alleged irregularities, take such action as they may deem under the circumstances, and to report at the earliest possible opportunity.
A Special Meeting ■of the Committee was held on Tuesday •evening, August 1, ISB2, at 7 p.m. Present: J. E. Stevens Vice-President ; •J. S. Dickie, Treasurer ; Sims, Crawford, Holt, Cambridge, Attfield, Clark, and Geo. Fache, Secretary. The sub-committee, appointed at the extraordinary special meeting, reported that “they visited the hospital on the evening of ■Friday the 28th ult. After taking evidence •of the patients, they had interviewed Dr, Foot, the Resident Surgeon, and suggested to him to send in his resignation. This Dr. Foot promised to do by noon of the following day ■; but he neglecting to fulfil his promise by the time named, they had suspended him from the position of Resident "Surgeon pending the pleasure of the Committee of Management. They then telegraphed to Dr. Hyde, asking him to attend to the Hospital. Dr Hyde had responded to the call, arriving in Clyde on Sunday afternoon the 30th inst.. when he visited the Hospital, he had also visited the Hospital on Monday. Resolved : That the report of the subcommittee be received and adopted.
Resolved: That Dr. Foot he dismissed ■from the office of Resident Surgeon from the date of his suspension. A letter from Dr. Hyde was read, offering to attend and visit the Hospital twice a week—Sundays and Thusdays—remaining ipart of the following days for five guineas a visit an I expenses,
The Secretary was instructed to telegraph to Dr Hyde asking him to visit the Hospital on Thursday first, the 3rd inst., in terms with his letter, and a aub-commitiee, consisting «t Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, be empowered to make definite •arrangements with Dr. Hyde for visiting ■the Hospital until the appointment of a Resident Surgeon.
Resolved: That advertisements be inserted in the Daily Times, Lyttleton Times, New Zealand Times and Dunstan Times. inviting applications tor the office of Real •dent Surgeon. The meeting then closed.
