The report circulated last night to the effect that a gun had burst at the Queenscliff Battery was not correct. The accident occurred in the following manner One of the 40-pounder Armstrong guns was fired, when the shell with which it was loaded exploded immediately after leaving the muzzle of the gun. Two civilians (not Volunteers as previously stated) who were walking below the cliff were struck by the pieces. One of them is so seriously injured that his recovery is not expected. A man whose name was Boss, who was so seriously injured by the Queensnliff accident on Easter Monday, died this afternoon from the effects of the wounds he then received.
