MELBOURNE, July 29. The paddle steamship Murray, belonging to the Gibpsland Steam Navigation. Company has gone ashore at the Gippsland Lakes, snd is expected to become a total loss.
SYDNEY, July 29. Nothing definite has transpired with reregard to the arrangements of the Squadron but it is now said to be uncertain whether it v.dll after all visit Auckland. The Admiral is known to be awaiting further instructions from the Admiralty. BRISBANE, July 29. A telegram Is to hand from Rockhampton, stating that a nursegirl,whilst out walking with three children, carelessly dropped one of them into the river, and then, it is further alleged, drowned tho other two to prevent them telling. An inquiry is being instituted by the Police into the alleged crime.
July 30. Three important libel actions aro pending. One has been brought by Mr Hemniant against the “Observer” for LbOOO damages. Tlie other two informations are laid by Mr Oooto, a journalist, and Mr Perkins, Secretary for Lands, against the “Standard.”
