WELLINGTON, July 29. A collision occurred at the Heads last night between Captain William’s barque Anstralind and the brig Neptune. They wore beating up the passage, the Australind on the port tack and the Neptune on the starboard. On nearing one another 'he wind baffled, and both vessels went in slSjw, but there was not sufficient time to avoid, collision. The bow of the Neptune struck the bow of the Australind, and the latter had part of her bead gear and stem carried away ; while the whole of the head gear, four or live stanchions, and the bows of the Neptune were also carried away. The captain of the Australind states that the collision was purely accidental, and would have been avoided had the wind not baffled.
CHRISTCHURCH, July 29, The editor of a ivcekly society paper published hero was assaulted in tho lobby of theatre last night by a man who considered himself aggrieved by something which had appeared in the paper in question. Tho Police have received orders to prosecute people catching, having, or offering for sale flounders or soles under nine inches long. Great complaints are made about the wholesale destruction of young fish in Lako Ellesmere.
