The Dunstan Times.

CLYDE, FRIDAY, JULY 22, 1881.

Beneath the rule of men entirely just The pen is mightier than the sword.

A few issues back we noticed that a number of pheasants, partridges, and quail, also a number of small song-birds of the finch tribe, had'Jrnade their! appearance in the district ; and we particularly requested all and sundry who might see them to protect them in every shape and form. A day or two ago it came to our knowledge that one of the pheasants was killed. We also learn that the trout in Fraser’s River, in the Manorburn, and in the Waikerikori Creek are being slaughtered in a wholesale way, and at all seasons. It may not be generally known that a very heavy penalty is attached to the killing of either game or fish. We take this opportunity of drawing attention to the fact, and would most certainly advise the hint to be taken.
