ROXBURGH. )Commuxicated) There was a good attendance at the land sale to-day, the 29th inst., but the bidding was slack. The deferred-payment section in Crookstnn district passed in. Section 2, block 7, and section 8, block 8, Benger, realised 37s fid per acre, Messrs Cargill and Anderson being the purchasers. No sections in block 3, Benger district, the upset price of the laud being £lO per acre, were sold excepting to three individuals who had houses on them, who bought section 69, block 3,—section 16 and 18, at the upset price to their holdings All sections in block 14, Benger, were sold at upset price, Mr Mervyn being the purchaser of all excepting section 9, which fell to MrJHarris.
Suburban sections, 4, 5, 6, and 7, block 24, Roxburgh, were knocked down to Mr J. Burton at the upset price, and section 76, block 20. to the same buyer. Section 8 and D, of the same block fell to MrMervyn. Several town sections were withdrawn from sale by the request of the Corporation re water supply. Sections in the town of Ophir were in no demand, and very little wonder, as it could not possibly have been expected that people would travel 50 miles to purchase a section. It appears'to me a terrible blunder, amounting, in fact, to a positive sin, the imposing upon people long and arduous journeys when it could be prevented. The result of the sale was as follows : Section 14, block 1, L 8 per J-acre, John Jamie ; section 15, block 1,L7 10s per J-acre, P. Harrington ; sections 16, block I, L 7 10s per j-aorc, Martin Gavan ; section 21, block 1,L7 10sper j-acre,G. MMntosh ; section 22, block I, L 7 10s per 1-acre, K. Jenkins ; section 3, block 111, L 7 10s per j-acre, Colonial Bank ; section 1, block V, L 7 10s per jaoro, Roman Catholic Church Committee; section 11, block V,L7 10a per j-acre, Medical Fund Committee, i
