CAMBRIANS. The weather for the season of the year has, so far, been remarkably mild and open, and those weather prophets who foretold a long and severe winter will certainly li wrong so far as regards length, howev severe the remaining portion may be. Snow fell here for the tirst time last Saturday, but it did not lie more than a few hours. Such weather has been, of course, favorable for both farmer and miner. A few parties have washed up, but this operation is not so general this year as in previous years. Learmond and party havo again washed up, the returns equalling any of their previous good washings. A good deal of preliminary work in the shape of tail-race construction is going on in tho Vinegar Hill district at present. Some new ground has been discovered at tht foot of the Dunstan Range, between. Vinegar Hill and the Dunstan Creek. Pauley and party, the prospectors, have constructed a tail-race. They are now opening out, and some handsome seturns are expected from this claim. Two other parties are prospecting with water, and a few more sinking or tunnelling. This ground is above all tho waterraces at presont constructed, with one exception. I notice a number of residents in this locality are fencing in small farms, " with tho permission of the runholdcrs." I understand in fact, more land has been fenced in under this system during tho past few months, than has been altogether since this goldfiold existed, though whother it is done to keep down agitation on tho land question, or that the runholdera think they will not obtain another lease, and can thus afford to ho liberal with what will be of no further uso to them lam not in a position to say. As a sign of tho times it is worthy of notice, whatover may bo the reason.
