THE LOVER’S GIFT.
“ What shall I give you, my love, my own ?” Said the enraptured youth to his lady fair ; “ Bangles and bracelets for your whiiij arms, Or jewels to twine in your golden hair ? A shawl from tho looms of the fervid East, Or satin and silks from those of France? What shall I give you, my love, my own ?” And bo turned upon her his tenderest glance. And her maiden’s eyes they brightly shone, With the light of joy and of love and truth, And her breath camo quick as her ears drank in The honeyed words of this ardent youth ; Round her slender waist ho had placed an arm,
As toyed with the curls on her sunny head, “ What shall I give you ?” repeated he. “ Not quite so much taffy,” she archly said.
