THE PROPOSED OFFICIAL CHANGES.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUN3TAN TIMES.) Sir :—I was pleased to see that our Mayor, Mr Rivers, bad the good sense to protest against the injurious and foolish letters tliat appeared in the Cromwell paper this week, We are not all tit for a lunatic asylum, as the writers of those letters appear to be. As you say in your excellent lea ler—who wants to go fourteen’ miles further to do his business merely out of spite to your township? If we could have head-quarters fixed here it would be to oar gain, but as there is no hope of that, we want the next h*it thing, which is to keep them where they are now—at Clyde. Yours Ac.. — Storekeeper. Alexandra, 9th October,
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE DDNSTAN TIMES.) Slit—You deserve the thanks of the whole community for exposing the rotten designs of the Government in tacking us on to Mount Ida, with which place we have
uo connection or comumnitv of interest. It seems like a regular conspiracy against the people for the benefit of one or two officials, and there must be shocking ignorance at head quarters to allow of such things being done. Can you tell us tho best way to bring pressure to bear on tho Ministers, so as to prevent our being treated so badly, as wc are apparently in danger of.—Yours, Ac., A Friend. Blacks, 9ch October, 1889. • [ There is nothing so forcible as public meetings, which the people should hold throughout tho district, unless they wish to he crushed—Kl). D.T.J
