PRINTZ’S CLAIM, LONGWOOD.
(Western Star.) What may ho termed a very important event in the history of the district, took' place on Thursday, when a Cake of retorted gold, weighing 4/oZ 1 iihvts, tlie” result of the crushing of 3S tons of stone from the above claim',' was brought down from the battery and lodged in the Bank of Now /lealahd. Thb arrival of the gold was quite unexpected, except to the initiated, as it was generally unlerstood that a wash-up would not take place until yesterday or to-day, when it was calculated thill about '2 )0 tons of stone would have, been reduced, iThe stone from which the 47,p)z vve're" obtained was milled last week, and a rough scraping of the tables gave the result above named. The yield, although on the whole ■ satisfactory and payable, is much less'than ■ anticipated. Foi - Several reasons, however, the result cannot he taken as a fair test of the value of the reef. The stone put through was not considered to be of average qu dity, and as already stated, the tables were only roughly cleaned, and a proper wash-up did iffit take place.
