Deidrich, who died in the hospital on 3lst July has made a will, leaving all his property to the Institution, and would recommend that the Committee should give the matter their immediate attention, as the property, amongst
other things, consists of a house, and gold mining claim.
The President stated that the Visiting Committee ami himself had incurred extra expenditure in providing a better class of coffin for deceased, and asked that the Committee would support them. Resolved- That the action taken by the President and Visiting Committee be upheld.
It was understood that Dr Leahy, Mr Russell, the wardsman, and Mr Robert Scott, of Tinkers Gully were the executors under the will, and that the matter was now in the hands of Mr F. J. Wilson, Solicitor. The Treasurer referred to the fact that from the Alexandra and Drybread districts, few or no subscriptions had been received for the past two years, and asked if nothing could be done.
The Secretary said he hail asked over and over again the leading residents in each district to canvass for subscriptions until he was perfectly ashamed. For him to make a personal canvass was little better than a waste of time as it was well-known that men, whether farmers or miners, but seldom carried money with them to their work.
Discussion ensued during which reference was made to the large number of patients now in the hospital as evidencing the fact that the Institution was required, and the Secretary was instructed to specially solicit contributions, anil where possible to make a personal canvass. Mr A. A. Oliver was re-elected member of the Visiting Committee. A vote of thanks to the Chair con eluded the mealing.
