G.T. CONCERT, ALEXANDRA. —o— In the Town Hall, Alexandra, on Friday evening last the members of the 1.0. G.T. Golden Stream Lodge, Alexandra, gave their annual concert in aid of the School funds. The programme was divided into two parts, which contained respectively 14 and 15 pieces ; also songs and dialogue by tho Alexandra Minstrele, the whole concluding with the “ National Anthem ” by tho Alexandra Brass Band Such a programme, as was to be expected, drew a numerous attendance, of whom, a goodly number were from Blacks, Drybread, and Tinker's Gully. Clyde, also, was represented by a very fair contingent, as was also Bald Hill Flat, and if we say that every one in Alexandra was present, we do not think we should be far astray ;in fact, the Hall was fairly crammed, and by tho hearty applause given after each piece of music or song, the efforts of the performers to give satisfaction was fully appreciated. Amongst tho performers wore many old friends, and with one or two exceptions all had previously appeared before an Alexandra audience, therefore we shall say no more than that they excelled themselves. Whilst giving every credit to the Committee of Management for the very tasteful manner they decorate! the Hall, we perforce must say they did rather too ranch in tho matter of drapery, as tho effect was to, as it were,, muffle the voices.
The Alexandra Minstrels appeared for the first time, and their Bongs and (goaks) jokes were thoroughly enjoyed. We have no desire to lead tho young artists astray either one way or tho other, ypt while sayins they put on the cork with the skill of older bloods, we cannot but think their dialogue was slip-shod, and their jokes rather too old ; however, as a few of the prominent angles are rubbed off or smoothed down they will be making anything but a mean adjunct to’an evening’s amusement on the goldfields. To pass entirely unnotice 1 the only lady performers would be scarcely courteous, therefore we say tho pianoforte solos and accompaniments by Miss Odell tended much to the success of tho concert, while the pianoforte duet by Misses Odell and Tecs was a pem. We must, perforce, also mention the violin duets and solos by Messrs Campbell and Ilotop, which wero grandly played, and deservedly merited the vociferous applause given.
We did not hoar the exact amount of cash taken at the door, hut wc arc given to understand that, all expenses liquidated, over L2O will ho handed over to the School Committee. Such a magnificent result must be highly satisfactory to the brethren of the Order, of whom we say, may they prosper.
