INQUEST.

\ n inquest was held on the 6th instant at Alexan Ira, in tho Geelong Hotel, before W. L. Simpson, Esq., Coroner, on to body of a man (unknown) found on the run known as “ Galloway,” at a place called Mount Campbell, and a verdict of “ found dead ” was returned. From the evidence, the following are the particulars—“ On the 12th or 13th of last month a man called at Galloway Station, and asked for, employment at “ rabbit killing ” —he stayed there all night, left next morning for Little Val-. ley, leaving his swag behind ; he arrived there and stayed for tho night, telling tho people there that he had been engaged to kill rabbits. He left the next evening without saying anything to any peison, and he was accompanied by two little dogs; no-hing further was seen or heard of him, but on the evening of the 22nd one of the dogs was seen near Little Valley, but no man—this excited suspicion, and fears were aroused as to the man’s safety, and consequently the case was reported to the Police, when search was made by them, assisted by the men on the Station, which resulted in the finding of the body of tbe deceased on the top of Mount Campbell, with one of his dogs lying on the top of him, and a heap of.dead Maori hens, which evidently had been killed by him in protecting the face of his late master."—[Since writing the above wc have ascertained that the deceased’s name was John Yates, and that for the past twelve months he had been working on the Kawarau Station, where his wife still is.]
