CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

/ The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held in tho Council Chambers on Tuesday evening last tho sth instant.— PresentMr S. Welsford, Mayor, and Councillors Beck, Clark, Cox and M ‘Connochie. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and adopted. The inward, comprising the following, were read and received. From Vincent County Council, repurchase of Clyde bridge by the Government; from Mr C. Nichols, re repayment of loan £SOOO on Bridge debentures ; from Mr F. J. Wilson, Solicitor, embodying opinion on Deed between Mr J. Holt and the Corporation of Clyde, in reference to right of water from the Wai Keri Keri Creek ; from Mr Inspector Moore, nominating Constable Gordon as Collector of fees under the Dog and Goat Nuisance Ordinances, and two Circular Letters from the Secretary to the Colonial Treasury, relative to Subsidies to Hospitals : letters from Mr J. D. Feraud of dates January 10,1875, and February 2nd, 1878 were read. During discussion on letters relative to the purchase of Clyde bridge. Vincent Pyke Esq , County Chairman, who was in attendance by request, explained tho action so far taken ; viz.—That it was arranged with the Government, through the Hon. Mr Larnach, Minister for Public Works, that the £SOOO, voted by the Assembly at its last sitting would be paid on the 7th of May. The question then arose as to throwing the Bridge open for free traffic, and Mr Pyke was asked if the Vincent County Council would pay out of its funds the average takings of the Bridge up to the time of payment ot the £SOOO was made, if tho bridge was now thrown open for free braffio. In reply, r Mr Pyke said he would submit any proposition to the County Council that this Council might make. It was then resolved—That this Council is willing to throw open the Clyde bridge to free traffic in consideration of the Vincent County Council paying to the Corporation a sum equal to the average takings from tolls up to the time the Government handed over the £SOOO voted for the purchase ot the bridge, and that the Mayor and Councillor Beck he empowered to carry out the foregoing. Resolved—That Constable Gordon be appointed Collector for the Town of Clyde, under the “ Dog-and Goat Nuisance Ordinances. The Mayor said the next matter on the Order Paper was the question of merging the Town into the County ;he said, it appeared from what he could glean, that it was tho unanimous desire of the whole of the residents of the Town, and ho would now ask for an expression of opinion by the Council. Resol veil-That a Sub-Committee, consisting of the Mayor and Councillor Beck be appointed to renew negotiations with tho Vincent County Council, with the view to merge the Borough in the County. The Town Clerk was instructed to communicate tho above resolution to the Vincent County Council, and ask them to appoint a time to arrange terms. The Finance Committee’s report, recommending payment of £7 15s Od was road and adopted. The usual vote to the Chair terminated tho proceedings.
