BLACKS.

—o iVom this neighborhood there is no par tioular intelligence saving that the farmers are on the look out for hands for the hbr. vest, which is expected to commence in the course of next week. The crops are spoken of as looking very well, the wheat crop especially so. Mr J. C. Jones has made a start with the erection of his flour mill at Spottis Creek, that is to say, the contractors Messrs Calloway and LeSsk, who have the contract tor the stone work, have commenced work. They are now engaged ia blasting out the foundation, and na this in rock of a most solid description there is evidence the building will be of a most Substantial character, and there can he no two opinions hut that the mill, when in full swing, will he the moat substantial benefit over yet conferred on the district. A mill in a district means not only cheap flour hut increased labor, for which twofold benefit Mr Jones will deserve the best thanks and the greatest possible amount of support and assistance that can bo given him. Mr Pitches new stone store is externally completed, and is a most creditable piece of work, as a fact a bct'.er piece of - masonry there is not in the Dnnstan district, ami does credit to the builders. The internal fittings aro now being made and when-com-pleted it will be a commodious and hand - somo building, and add greatly to the appearance of the town. It remains new for the Bank proprietary and some of the other hotelkeepers and tradespeople to improve their buildings to make Blacks (Ophlrj one of the prettiest towns up-country. It was understoodat a late meeting of the County Council that a sum of money w.vi vo;ed to extend the street at the northern end of the town, nothing as yet has been done in the matter, but I really hope before the winter sets in, that it will be done, as the work is most necessary. While on the subject of roads, 1 will mention that that portion from Spottis Creek to the foot of Tiger Hill, even in summer, is bad, but in winter is simply execrable, to make anything like a job of will cost a good bit of money, but it being on the main road between Blacks, Clyde'and Alexandra it demands attention, and I hope will receive it at the hands of the Council.
