MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

—-o Clydk. On Tuesday last, at noon, the nomina. tion of candidates for the office of Council, lors for East and West Wards took place in front of the Town Hall. Mr C. P, Beck, Returning Officer, having road the Statu, tory notice and the advertisement fixing the day and calling for candidates, the Town Clerk then read the nominations received, as follows For West Ward, Mr Win. Auckland ; for East Ward, Mr G, Clark and Mr C. D. Stock. The Returning Officer then declared Mr Wm. Auckland duly elected for West Ward, and explained that, as there wore more than the required number of candidates nominated for East Ward he would adjourn all further pro. ceedings till Saturday, the 4th August, when the poll will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Both candidates briefly addressed the ratepayers present, saying that, if elected, they would do their utmost to fill the position with credit alike to themselves and the town. election of councillor for south ward. The election for this office took place on Tuesday the Slat inst., the close of the poll shewing J. D. Feraud, 14; and W. Williams, 13. On the declaration of the poll Mr Feraud thanked those who had voted for him and said his every effort would be with the assistance of his colleagues of steering the Municipal ship clear of all shoals. Mr Williams also briefly returned thanks to his supporters. There was no particular excitement over the contest, though by the close voting it is evident there was a strong under current at work.
