DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Library Hall on Monday evening last, the 4th instant. Present—B. Naylor, Esq., (President), W. L. Simpson, Esq. (Vico President), Messrs J. U. Cambridge, J. Holt, J. E. Stevens (Treasurer), and G. Fache (Secretary). The tninutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary explained there was no meeting in the mouth of May. Correspondence was read and confirmed. The \ isiting Committee’s report, recommending the payment of accounts for the month of April, amounting to LSO 11a 4d, and for May, LSO 13s lid, was read and received. The Treasurer’s report, as follows, was read and received : - Receipts. Number of patients remaining in Hospital on April 30 5 do. admitted during May 9 do. discharged Died o remaining in Hospital on May 31 ... 9 The report contained. a list of bedding required for the Institution, and stated the number of in-door patients treated during the month was greater than any other month since the corresponding month of last year. Resolved—That the Surgeon be empowered to order such of the articles mentioned in his report as arc immediately necessary'. A long discussion ensued on a letter from Mr. T , Pitches, Blacks No. 1, in which the

writer referred to the .great inconvenience and positive loss entailed on the inhabitants of outlying districts through not having a resident medical man, and suggesting that subscribers to the Hospital should bo entitled to the attendance of the Hospital Surgeon at a fixed rate, concluding with an evpression of belief that it something of that sort were practicable, not only would resident" in the outlying districts be benofitted, but the funds of the Institution would be greatly increased. A lengthened, and what appeared at one time an interminable discussion, took place. Eventually, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Simpson, seconded by Mr Stevens— That, with the view of giving the outlying districtsja greater benefit from the Institution, and also, as far as possible, enabling them privately to availfthemselves of the B rvio s of the hospital Surgeon at amoderate rate. A sub-committee, consisting of the Treasurer and Secretary, bo appointed to wait on the Resident Surgeon and ask him at what increase of salary he would, as Hospital Surgeon, visit the Blacks district and Alexandra one day in each week, and attend all holders of Hospital tickets as outdoor patients of the Dunstan District Hospital, and would attend private patients at the ordinary fee charged jfby a resident medical man, and also ascertain the charge he would make for special visits. Resolved—That copies of the foregoing resolution, together with Dr Button’s reply, be sent to the leading men in the outlying districts of Blacks, Tinkers, and Drybread ; also, that copies be sent to the leading men of Alexandra, Spear Grass, Butchers, and Conroy’s Gullies, and that the Secretary convene public meetings at Alexandra for Saturday, the 9th instant, at 6 p.m , and at Black’s for Tuesday evening, the 12th inst., at 7 p m., to consider same, and to discuss the affairs of the Institution generally. Mr J. Holt was elected a member of the Visiting Committee, vice Mr W. Auckland retiring. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
