—o—(By Cable.) (From Dunedin Dailies.) London, May 28. It is reported that Ardahan has been recaptured. The Danube has overflowed. Singapore, May 31. Russia’s ambassadors to Berlin, Vienna, and London have gone to St. Petorsburgh. The German squadron has gone to tho Levant. London, June 1. Gortschakoff accompanying the Czar to Ployesti has given rise to many rumours. ‘ Lo Nord ’ assures England that Russia will neither assail nor interfere with British interests. The semi-official organ at Berlin lays stress on the necessity of the neutrality of Germany, and exhorts Germany to secure the peace of Europe. The recapture of Ardahan is not confirmed. Continued cannonade is going on at Widin and Kalafat. The Russian troops have evacuated the Trans-Caucasian province of Abrasia. Singapore, June 1. There are vague rumours of peace negotiations through German mediation. Alsace and Lorraine are to be reinforced. London, June!. Mr Bouyke, in the House of Commons, said there was no reason to suppose Russia imagines a peace settlement possible unless by satisfying Europe with the knowledge of a Russian proposal to localise the war. Singapore, June 2. The recapture of Ardahan by the Turks is officially confirmed. At a Liberal demonstration in Birming ham, Mr Gladstone challenged the Government to test the opinion of the country by a dissolution. Singapore, June 4. The reported recapture of Ardahan is erroneous. The Russians have completely invested Kars. Midhat Pasha is commanding the garrison. The position is very critical. The Queen of Holland is dead. Peace rumours continue. The Danube is falling rapidly. Active operations are being carried on at Kars. Greece is'doubling her army and summoning reserves. Bombay, June 3. At Bangalore it is reported that Russia is anxious for peace after the first victory, to prevent European complications. Gambetta, in replying to an address, counselled moderation. He alluded to the contingency of President MaoMahon resigning, and approved of Thiers succeeding him.
