VINCENT PYKE, M.H.R. Reply to Requisitionists. To George Fache, Esq, DEAR SIR, —I have to acknowledge your communication of . 16th inst., forwarding requisitions signed by 400 Electors of the Dunstan District, calling upon me not to resign my seat in Parliament. I I should indeed have been unworthy i to represent the District if I had 1 weakly yielded to the demands of a i minority of the Electors, a large 1 number of whom, I am assured, already regret that they should have been induced, by the interested misrepresentations of a factious clique, to ask me to resign—not because of any political tergiversation on my part, but merely because of the location of 1 County Council Offices But the 1 value of the voluntary Requisition of the majority can scarcely be over es timated. It‘will strengthen my hands in Parliament when I am striving to promote the interests of the District;, and it will deprive my opponents of the power of saying that I do not possess the confidence of my constituents. In truth, I have sustained a plebiscite of the Electorate, equal in its effect to a new election, and the verdict of the majority has been unmistakably in my favor. Thus sustained by the people whom I deem it an honor to serve, I shall retain my seat with the resolve to forget the injurious conduct of my adversaries, and to remember with gratitude the kindliness of my’friends|andfsupporters. Pray convey to the Requisitionists my sincere thanks for the aid which they have so promptly rendered in the hour of difficulty, and believe me to be, My dear Sir, V our obedt.
