CRICKET MATCH.

—o Alexandra. Coys v. Clyde Boys. The cricketing season of 1876-7 opened on Saturday with a match between the above teams, and resulted—as by the scores appended—'n a victory for Alexandra by five runs. Of the result the Clyde boys have nothing to bo ashamed of ; on the contrary, they should rather feel elated, as on previous matches they have been defeated by far great, r numbers. Their play on Saturday shewed a very marked improvement, not only in the wielding of the willow and the trundling of the hall, but in the general knowledge of the game ; and with steady practice there is every chance of them being able to place a game to th'eir credit before the season is over. The Alexandra boys played a good game, but with some we were not so well p’casot as we mi.dit have beep, neither with their play or their general demeanor ; and we have to express the hope that in both there will he a marked improvement when we next have' the pleasure of seeing them in the field. Theflo remarks, wo would have it.distinctly understood, are made with every good feeling and in a spirit of kindness, an 1 io such n spirit we must hope they will lie taken. We were sorry to see so few, in fact we may say none of the adult population present. Their absence showed a want of interest in the youngsters

and their amuaonlenta, and perhaps to that may bo attributed tho cause of the above remarks. Mr Stevens, Master of the Clyde School, acted ns htopiro- for his boy«g and Masters Chappie and Robinson for the Alexandra boys. Tho scores are appended below;— Clyde.—First Innings.
