CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The, usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last, the flth inst. Present—B. Naylor, Esq., Mayor ; and Councillors Welsford, Beck, G. Fache, arid A. Moore. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence as follows was read and received ; 1. From F. J, Wilsm, Esq., Solicitor, accompanying title deeds of lands on which Town Hall and Library Building is erected, in the name of the Corporation. 2. Tc'egram from T. L. Shepherd, Esq., M 11. R., staling that Clyde Waterworks Bill giving power to Council to borrow L4OOO bad passed through the Assembly. 3. From Mr J. Holt, making application to divert water in Town Bare. 4. From Mr W. Grant, contractor of Clyde bridge, for leave to cut temporary water race in Camp street, in connection with the approach to the bridge. 5. From Mr O. Murray, applying for permission to fence in a piece of land adjoining bis present garden at the west side of Sunderland street, for tree planting. The Mayor stated that he bad acknow lodged receipt of telegram from T. JL Shep herd, Esq., M.H.E.
Resolved—That Mr Holt bo permitted to divert water from Town Race, during the construction of approach to the bridge, and so long as such diversion does not interfere with any of the privileges of residents in West Ward. Over Mr Murray’s application some discussion arose, it being understood that the land thouzh within the Municipal boundary was unsurveyed and unsold. The Town Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Murray that the Council have no control, but express their readiness, in the event of any question arising to support bis interests,. Notice of motion tabled at Inst meeting byCr Welsford—That the Council hereafter meet monthly instead of fortnightly, was considered and carried. The Assessment Roll as prepared by Messrs Cambridge and M’Connochie was laid on the table, and after minute examination allowed. The total amount is L4OII. The Public Works, Committee reported that they bad examined the roof of Town Hall, and suggested that the only course to thoroughly prevent the same from leaking would be to remove parapet wall and carry the mot over the wall. The Public Works Committee wqre instructed to obtain estimates of cost, and lay same before next meeting. , , , The Mayor stated that Mr Holt had complained to him of M ‘Nall v and party using -the water of the Wai Keri Creek, to the detriment of himself and the Town, and asked if the Council would assist in proseeating them. ■ . The Council declined to take any action in the matter. The meeting then closed with a vote to the Chair.
