Dunedik, Oc l . 4, Convict Cyrus Haley attempted to escape this morning, and was shot dead by Warder Milner. The Macgregor with the English mail, has arrived at Auckland. News unimpo: • tant. Oct. 7. An inquest on Haley’s body has been held. The jury returned a verdict of “Justifiable Homicide.” Hunter, who burnt out the Chinese at Shag Valley, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor. A great meeting of the unemployed hag taken place. The usual string of complaints were brought forward. Some individuals wanted a man-of-war chartered to take them back.
