fro xirr, editor or the dukstav times.) Sir.—l have, during the last five years, had the pleasure of visiting nearly all the townships of the Province, and can safely say that the inhabitants of Clyde are equal to most, and far beyond many, in getting up social gatherings similar to the one I witnessed on Wednesday night last, viz. - the Ball in aid of the funds of the Clyde Brass Band. The music was excellent not to be surpassed, even in the metropo’is for time and harmony. Then, again, the people so heartily enjoyed themselves, being orderly, pleasant, and agreeable throughout the entertainment. The happy faces of the goodly company was a great contrast to many like meetings I have witnessed. Ihe whole programme was carried through without a hitch to mar its excellency. Although comparatively a stranger, I was made to share the enjoyment as if I were an old resident here, which of itself speaks volumes for the sociability cxising. Wishing every" sueess to the Band in its endeavors to cater for the public entertainment, 1 am, &c., STRANGER Clyde, Aug. 6, 1874.
