CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

—o— The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday evening, the 7th instant, at 7 p.m. Present—J. U. Cambridge, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Naylor, Marshall, Auckland, Beck, and Cox. The minutes of the last fortnightly and of meetings were read and adopted. The inward and outward correspondence was’read, received, and adopted. Applications from various local institutions concerning terms on which the use of the Town hall would in future be granted them - The Town Clerk was instructed to reply in accordance with resolutions. The Town Clerk was instructed to notify to Messrs. Buckley and Hart, Parliamentary Agents, Wellington, that this Council is not responsible for amount due, and refer them to Mr. Wilson, Solicitor, Dunedin, who is alone responsible. Councillor Beck was elected member of the Finance Committee, vice J. D, Feraud, resigned. Councillor Cox was elected member of the Public Works Committee, vice James Patterson. Amount 61. 95., James Patterson, for street cleaning, was passed for payment. A long discussion ensued as to method of striking a water rate, eventuating in a resolution, That a water rate be levied for the year 1872-3, and that the rate be Gd. in the pound on present assessment. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
