In reply- to question, the Treasurer said that the late ] ayin- patient, Robert Smith, who, by the books of the Institution, was ! indebted in the sum of 321. 125., had paid | him 5/., aud .had asked to be disclmiged ' i from further liability on the payment of a ] furthorsum of 5/. j After some discussion, it was resolved, | That the request lie not acceded to, as by 1 so doing a ba 1 precedent would be made ; but that Smith be not prc.sud for the balance. Messrs.’Auckland and Cox were rc-elccted members of the Visiting Committee. '■ The Visiting Committee were instructed to have tho Alorau.lra Ward thoroughlyoverhauled and repaired. Messrs. Notice of motion by Mr. Cox. That the 1 salary of tho Medical Officer bo increased !by 50t. per annum. Seconded by wr. Marshall. Mr. Christophers (Treasurer) said, before speaking to the motion, ho wished it to Do distinctly- understood that he did not under-rate the services of Dr. Stirling, nor did he consider the present salary- sufficient. He objected to the prop-suion on the grounds that he did not think it in order, as at a former meeting it had been resolved not-to increase the salary ; and further, he thought that, as tho Committee’s term of office was nearly at an end, it would be scarcely right to bind the in-coming Committee by anything the present Committee might do at the eleventh hour. Mr.- Hazlett suggested that the motion be withdrawn, and tho recommendation for an incieas. of salary be included in the annual r.port. By taking this course, it would be sen that the present Committee, were in favor of it. Mr. Beck supported the above views. Mr. Christophers said, upon consideration, as it was ap(.aiently the desire that some recognition of Dr. Stirling's invaluable sir vie s to tho Institution should be made by this Committe-, ho would propose as an amendment, That a bonus of 25/. be awarded to Dr. Stirling. Mr. Hazlett said ho had much pleasure n seconding the amendment. 11s thought the idea was a very lucky one. as by it the m-coming Committee wuld not lie hound by any act of theirs, and, at tho same time, only an act of justice would be done to Dr. S.irling. After some discussion, tho amendment was declared carried. The Secretary was instructed to furnish accounts to seviral late patients of tha Institution. Tenders for supplies for the ensuing qnaiter were opened, and tho following accepted Groceries, wines, spirits, &c., J. Uazlett; Meat, W, Grindley ; Bread, J. Haslie ; Burials, T. Webb. The usual vote to tho Chair concluded the meeting.
