DUNSTAN DISTRICT MINERS’ ASSOCIATION.
— o— usual monthly meeting of the Association was held in Hawthorne’s Clyde Hotel, on the Veniug of the 3rd instant. Present—Messrs. J. Hastie, (President) T. Sims, A. M'Lcod, E. Watson, J. Lindsay, E. Elliott, and J. Alexander, (Secretary.) The minutes of previous meeting were read and received. The inward and outward correspondences was read, received, and adopted. During a conversation, the inconvenienced that often arise during the adjudication of cases in the Warden’s Court through the want of a map o f the district, shewing the areas being mined upon, the areas open for Extended Claims, areas open under the Agricultural Leasing System, also the water races and the number of Heads of water granted from each source was expatiated upon, and it was resolved, That the Secretary apply to the Government to have one prepared of theDunstan District and placed in the Court House, Clyde. On discussing the desirability of taking steps in the direction of a reduction of the Gold Export Duty, it was considered that it would be useless for the Association to move in the matter without the co-opera-tion of the other associations in the Province, and it was resolved that the Secretary again write to the various associations, asking them to memorialize the Parliament on the subject during the present session. The Secretary said an early reply was expected from one association who had been asked to draw up an uniform set of resolutions for circulation throughout the Goldfields, to be accompanied with a request that they take immediate action therewith. The late sale of land in the Teviot district to Messrs Cargill and Anderson was brought under notice and fully discussed, and it was resolved that, on considering the wholesale sacr fi ;o of land on the gold-fields to monopolists, and other matters of misrule and neglect of the district by the Waste Lands Board and the Provincial Government, that, accompanying the memorial for the abolition of the Gold Duty, that a memorial be presented to the General Government, praying that the delegated powers be withdrawn from the Superintendent and the Provincial Executive. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with Mr. T. L. Shepherd, M H.P., o.fering a few suggestions relating to the new Gold-fields Act, and asdng him to furnish a copy of the Bill to the Association. Mr. Warburtou Devereaiix was deeded a member of tire Committee, and the usual vote of thanks closed the nroceedinus.
