CROMWELL HACK SPRING MEETING

The annual hack spring meeting took place on Tuesday last, under the auspices of the Cromwell District Jockey Club, at their course, at the Round-hill, and, if entrances prove a meeting a success, the present one may be considered as such. Unfortunately the weather, which had been threatning for some time, burst forth with violence. At one time the Stewards seriously thought of postponing the meeting to the following day. However, towards 3 o’clock, the sun began to show forth again, and the following events were then contested:— Handicap Hurdle Race of £l3. Distance, a mile and a half, over five flights of hurdles. Entrance £l. Mr. J. Cowan’s Poison, aged, 9st 91b (W. Gray) 1 T. Logan’s Fire-Eater, aged, 9st 41b (R. Swan) 2 J. Hazleth’s Musician, aged, lOst 41b (S. Waddle) 2 Musician started as favorite, but be'bre half the course was run Poison took the lead which he kept till first past the judge’s box. Maiden Plate of £lO. Open to all horses; that have never won an advertized prize, hack or other. Weights, 3 yrs., Bst ; 4 I yrs., 9st. ; 5 yrs. and aged, lOst. Distance, three quarters of a mile. Entrance, 15s. Mr. L.
