ALEXANDBA TOWN COUNCIL

The adjourned meeting of the Town Council was held in the Council Chamber on Friday last. Present : The Mayor, and Councillors Finlay, Allan, Beresford, and Ratcliffe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence was read and received. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Tuapeka Railway and Water Supply Progress Committee, requesting the cooperation of the Town Council. On the motion of Councillor Ratcliffe, seconded by Councillor Finlay, the Town Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Goodall’s letter, expressing the sympathy of the Town Council with the objects in view, and stating that the Council would lend their cordial co-operation when the suitable time arrived far them to do so. Letters were read from D. H. Merveyn, Lawrence, and Mr. G. S. Cupcr, Undersecretary, Wellington, re ative to the official announcement to the Colonial Secretary of tho Mayor’s election. A letter was read from Mr. Reid, resigning the office of Town ClerK, Proposed by Councillor Ratcliffe, second- ; ed by Councillor Allan, that Mr. Reod’s resignation be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Finlay, seconded by Councillor Beresford that a vote of • thanks be recorded tc Mr. Reid, for the

services he has rendered the Council in acting as Town Clerk. Carried. Accounts to the amount of £4 S»., Were on the motion of Councillor Finlav, second el by Councillor Beresford, passed for payment.

Proposed by Councillor Finlay, seconded by Councillor Allan, that the Mayor advertise in the first issue of the “ Dunstan Times” for applications for the office of Town Clerk. Applications to be sent in to the Mayor on or before the 7th Oct., prox. Carried. After the usual vote of thanks to the Chair, the Council adjourned till the 7th October.
