CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL
The usual fortnightly meeting was held in the Council Chambers on the 22nd inst. atßp:m. Present, J. Hazlett. Esq., the Mayor, and Councillors Patterson, Hastie, Hueston, Johnson, and Clark. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed.
The outward correspondence, comprising letters to Messrs Fraset, Mouat, Hughes, Haughton, and Shepherd, M.P.Cs deferring to memorials to his Honor, the Superintendent, anent, continuing the subsidy to Municipalities, placing a sufficient sum on the Estimates for the thorough repair of “the road between Cromwell and Clyde, and the Clyde commonage, and to Town Clerk, Queenstown, etc,, were read and adopted. The inward correspondence, including the following letters were read and received—FroiA Mr. F. Botger,” requesting permission to mine on a piece of land within the Municipal Bonn !ary, how in the possession of Mr. John Alloo, from Town Clerk, Cromwell, asking the co-opera-tion of this Council, in memorialising the Legislative As'sertlviy tor a sum of money for aipplying the goldfields with water, from W. Fraser, Esq-, M.P.C., acknowledging receipt of memorials, etc., from A. Willis, Esq, Secretary to his Honor the Superintendent, in f ormmg the Council, that the Government declines to recommending the Municipality of Clyde being endowed with the commonage, form the Provincial Secretary, stating that the sum of £IOOO had been .placed on the Estimates for the repair of the Clyde and Cromwell Road, and that the work would be proceeded with at once.
The'report of the Inspector of Nuisances was read, it recommended that all pigstyes should be removed out of the Town, and that a special site ha selected for the same.
Resolved, —That the report be adopted, and the suggestion acted upon. Resolved, —That the application of Mr. P. Botger be not entertained, the ground being'already grante I.
Accounts to ‘the amount of £66 ss. were passed for payment.
The Town Clerk state 1 that the sum of £66 18s., Government subsidy, had been received.
The Town Clerk was instructed to notify by AJvertisementpn the “Dunstan Times” That any person removiuggravel, etc., from within the Municipality would be prosecuted.
Two appeals against the Water Rate were heard.
The Town 'Clerk was ifistru cted to write to the Chief Post Master, ami inform him of the irregularity in the delivery of the Dunedin Mails.
The meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to the Chair.
