ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.
Tho usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Friday evening hist. Present: The Mayor and Councillors Calder an i Theyers.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The correspondence was read and approved. A letter was read from Mr. Joseph Mason, Royal Mail Hotel, asking leave to remove his stable on to the reserved ground behind ihe present site of his stables. Leave was granted. An application from Mr. Charles Morris was rear], asking leave to quarry stones from rocks behind the township. Leave was granted. A report from the Inspector of Nuisances was then read, respecting the nuisance caused by certain of the inhabitants keeping pigs in the immediate vicinity of dwell-ing-houses ; also that tho nuisance was on the increase.
After some discussion, Councillor Theyers proposed, That the report lie over till next meeting, and that a Committee, to consi t of the Mayor, Councillor Calder, and tho mover, he appointed to consider the report and to select a site for the sties should their removal he deemed necessary. The Town Clerk 'aid on the tabic an lited statement of receipts and expenditure for tho year ending 31st of December, 1869, showing a balance in baud of £143 2s. 7d. The statement was adopted, and or.icred to be pub ished in the usual manner.
According to notice, Councillor Theyers moved, That the hate to he levied on tho assessment for the year 1869-70 be Cd. in the £. Seconded by Councillor Caldct, an l carried.
Accounts to the amount of £2O Is. Bd. wore passed for payment. Proposed by Councillor Calder, That the Works Committee inspect the approach to the Molyucux Pant, ami* if. found nccod-
sary, to cause the junction of the two approaches to bo channeled, so as to lead tho water over the main approach and thence into the river; also to inspect Limerickstreet, and order any necessary work to be done to carry off Gie surplus water during heavy rains Seconded by CouncillorTheyers nn> carried.
Proposed by Councillor Caldcr, seconded by Councillor Tlieyors, and carried, That the Town Clerk be instructed to ('raw the attention of Mr. Simson, Bond Engineer, to the dilapidated state of the road between the town boundary and Brewery Gully, and to request that ho will cause tho damaged parts to he repaired.
This conc’uded the business before tho Council, which adjourned to that day fortnight.
