-GENERAL...SYNOD. 1 Southland gives Public Notice, that a Meeting of the General Syuod will bo holden in Auckland, on the sth of October next. Three Clergymen and fonr Laymen are to be elected as Representatives for the Diocese of Dunedin, for a period of three years. Laymen of the age of 21 years and upwards, who shall h.ve signed the declaration, namely : "I , do hereby declare, that I am a member of the United Church of England and Ireland, in New Zealand," are qualified to vote for a Lay Representalive of the district of the Diocese in which they reside, and every such Layman being a Communicant, may be elected as a Lay Representative, whether resident or not in the district for which Leis elected. ELECTORAL DISTRICTS. 1. From Dunedin (including the city and suburbs Dunedin) to the Mataura—Returning Officer, C. Caldwell, Esq., Dunedin. 2. Fiom Port Chalmers to the Waitaki—Returning Officer, 11. Clapcott, Esq., Oamaru. 3. The Goldfields—Returning Officer —Ochiltree, Esq., of Messrs. Herbert, Lawrence. 4. Southland—Returning Officer, —. Brodrick, Esq., Invercargill. If the persons nominated to not exceed the number to be elected, they will be returned as representatives of the Diocese; if they exceed the number, their names will bepublished, and the electors will be called upon to re cord their votes. Form of nomination paper for a Lay elector:— "1 , do hereby declare that I am a member of the United Church of Englandand Ireland in New Zealand and 1 hereby nominate , as the Representative from the District of in the General Synod." Residence of Elector. Signature. Nominations must be sent in to the Returning Officers, on or before 12 noon of the ICth of September next. It is requested, before any candidate is nominated, that he should express his willingness to attend the Synod, in the event of his being elected.
