ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

Tho first meeting of the new Council was he’d in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening the 12th instant. A full Coanril was present. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. A discussion took place as to the manner in which the vote had been expended, it appearing that Foynes-streot had had more than its proportion expended on it. while the approach to tho Ferry via Athlone street had been almost untouched. After an explanation hy Councillor Theycrs, the adoption of the report was seconded hy Councillor Beresford and carried. The cost of the above repairs, amounting to the sum of £ld ISs. 4d. was ordered to he pai'. On tho motion of Councillor Hillhonse, seconded hy Councillor Theycrs, the part of the road, leading to the punt, via Athlone Street, and left undone as before stated was ordere 1 to be g mo on with at once. Councillors Jack and Hillhouse were balloted members of the Works Committee, and Councillors 1 heyers and Beresford, members of Finance Committee. Proposed hy Councillor Theyers, second, ed by Councillor Hillhonse, that this Council memorialize the Government, praying that the services of a Surveyor be granted to survey the course of a water-race, proposed to be braught in by the people of this district; the race to be taken out of the Manuherikia river, and brought on to the Dunstau Flat at such an elevation as to

command the Banks of the Mobyneux from Alexandra to Clyde.—Carried. Notice was given by Councillor Jack that he will move at the next sitting, that the salary of the Inspector of nuisances be reduced to £lO per annum. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the business of the sitting.
