TOWN-COUNCIL, CROMWELL.

The usual meeting of the Council was held at the Court-House, on Monday last. The Mayor, Mr W. J. Barry, ife the chair. Present, Councillors H etherington, Kidd, Wbetter, ahd Marsh. . The minutes of the Iprevious meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr J. htewart, informing the Council of his intention to construct a punt across the Kawarau river, defer the Bannockburn junction. liecei' r ed. Proposed by Cr. Whetter—" That the Standing Order fixing the meetings of Council on each M omlay, be rescinded j and that the Cotincil, for the future, mee t on every : felternate Monday." Seconded by Cr. H etherington, and carried. Proposed by Cr. H etherington—« That the Council go -into Committee on the tanding Orders." Seconded by Cr. Kidd, and carried. The Council resolved itself into Committee. Business being resumed, the report of the Committee was to the effect that the Standing Orders of the Municipality of Lawrence, with the exception of clause 31, be adopted ‘pro tern.’ Carried. Proposed by Cr. Whetter—“That a Public Works Committee be formed, to consist of the following, Crs Marsh, lietherington and Kidd.” Carried. Proposed by Cr. Marsh—“that the Commissioner of Police be requested to allow a member of the force stationed at Cromwell, to be appointed to the office of Inspector of Nuisances.” Seconded by Cr. Kidd, and carried. It was proposed, and unanimously carried—“ That the Assessors be instructed to commence their duties forthwith.” A vote of thanks to the Chair closed the proceedings.
