Speculation then went ahead, and at the road led by thirty yards. Jumbo baulked at the second hurdle, but got over at the second attempt. Past the stand Speculation led by fifty yards, and con-tin-iins? to lead to the finish won very_easily by fifty yards, Jim passing Jumbo in the hist quarter, and getting into second place. From a good start Ugly Buck c colors wore the first to appear, attended by Bayard and First Water, the Poet and Armourer a length away. Corning to tho road the same joo.sitions wore maintained. Passing the stand the first time Derrett was a full length clear of the lot, First Water next, Bayard third, the Toot and Armourer running side by side two lengths from Bayard. At the bottom turn First Water resigned second place, which Bayard ran into, Armourer closing up and the Poet falling away. Along the back stretch Buck was still ahead, Bayard and Armourer half a length away, First Water andThePoet still dropping behind, evidently beaten. Rounding the straight Ugly Buck increased his command to two lengths, Bayard and Armourer struggled gamely, but Derritt sat still on Ugly Buck, and won easily by a length and a half, Bayard two lengths away. Time, 3min 18sec. Dividend (£2 shares), £o 15s. HACK BACK. Pokaka 1 . Dan O'Connell came in first, but was disqualified on the ground of having previously won public money over £25. GEAND STAND HANDICAP. Of 60 soys ; l£ mile. Mr. Horsford's Minerva .1 Mr. Vallance's Pasha .. .. .. 2 Mr. Tancred's Consul .. .. .. 3 —.Normanby also ran. This was another grand race, all the horses running in a cluster to the straight, when Derritt brought o\it Minerva and won by a length. Time, 2min I7jsec.
