BANQUET TO MR BRACKEN.
Auckland, This day,
A banquet was given on Tuesday night by pressmen and others, to Mr Thomas Bracken, the well-known poet and journalist. There were about fifty persons present. Mr William Berry presided. Apologies were received from Sir F. Whitaker, Mr Mitcholson. M.H.R., Dr. Campbell, Mr Wm. Swanson, and Mr J. Shera. Among those present were the Mayor of Auckland, Consul Griffin, Mr Aickin, chairman of the Harbor Board, and Councillor Conolly. The toast of the evening was received with great enthusiasm. Mr Bracken gave two recitations. Mr Mitchelson, in his note of apology, expressed regret that Mr Braclcen was not now in Parliament, and hoped to see him there again, although they belonged to different parties.
