SUPREME COURT.
Wanganui, This clay. At the Supreme Court to-day, Johnston, for forging telegrams, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Rees, for the same offence, comes up for sentence next session, pending tho decision of the Court of Appeal on legal points. CiißisTcnußcn, This day. Mr Justico Johnston gave an important judgment in Banco yesterday in the case of Hunter (appellant) v. Gould and another (respondents). The case was an appeal from the decision of the Resident Magistrate at Christchurch. The appellant leased from the respondents certain premises, which were afterwards, with tho consent of respondents, sublet to one W. J. Mitchell, who subsequently became bankrupt. The Official Assignee elected not to take the lease, and accordingly paid the rent up to the period of so electing. The respondents thereupon sued the appellant for the rent to accrue for the remainder of the term, amounting to £7 18s od, for which amount judgment was given by the magistrate. The appellant appealed, and His Honor now gave judgment allowing the appeal with costs.
