Wellington, This day.
Mr B. Williamson's Wideawake has been nominated for tho Maiden and Open Steeplechases at the Wellington Jockey Club's meeting." CiiRisTCHURCir, This day. A general meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club was heid at Warner's Hotel yesterday afternoon. Mr G. G. Stead explained that tho principal business of tho meeting was to confirm the programme of the season as proposed by the committee. Tho Spring meeting had £1000 added to it, the New Year's meeting remained the same, and the Autumn meeting had £-5000 added to it on the motion of Mr Thomas, seconded by Mr Griffith. Mr Ross suggested the establishment of an Oaks Stakes. The suggestion gave rise to a discussion, during the course of which the chairman remarked that the question of an Oaks Stakes had been discussed, and the committee generally were of opinion that the time had not yet arrived for the introduction of such a stake. However, there would bo no harm done in tho matter being again brought before the committee. On the motion of Mr Griffith it was agreed to ask the committee to consider whether it would not be advantageous to impose a penalty in future Champagne Stakes.
