Gisborne, This day. Mr S. Locke addressed a public meeting on Monday night, and Mr Gannon spoke List night to a largo attendance. A vote of thanks was passed by a large majority to Mr Locke, and a vote of confidence to Mr Gannon was carried almost unanimously. Mr Locke promises independent support to t/ic'. present Ministry next session, and would give the Government's right of preemption over native lands a chance for a few years in tho King country, huthe thought it totally inapplicable here. Mr Gannon goes in for free trade in nalivo lands all over tho Island under certain safeguards. He did not absolutely declare in favor of any party, but praised Sir George Grey and especially his policy regarding native lands. Mr Ross addressed a meeting at Ormond on Monday night, and received a vote of confidence. Wellington, This day. The Post last night published a private telegram stating that Mr Pilliet, M.H.R. for Stanmore, has offered to resign his seat in favor of Sir Julius Vogel, and if the latter will stand no opposition is anticipated. CiiRiSTCiiURCir, This day. It has been suggested that Sir Julius Vogel should be asked to contest the Avon seat with Mr Rolleston.
