FIRES.
Auckland, This day. _ An incipient fire was discovered this morning in Neale's grocery warehouse, but it was extinguished before any serious damage was done. Wellington, This day. An inquiry will be held to-morrow into the recent fire at St. John's Church. Nulson, This day. On Monday night a twelve-roomed house at Wakapuaka, belonging to Mr Wastney, was burnt to the ground, together with carriage-house, &c. The buildings were insured for £656 and the furniture for £450, both in the South British office.
A fire broke out yesterday during the absence of the family in a seven-roomed house in Brook-street, owned and occupied by Mr W. Lockey, cab proprietor. The upper rooms were completely destroyed, but the lower ones were saved. The furniture from the latter was got out. The building is insured for £150 in the South British office, and the furniture for £100 in the Australian Mercantile office. Dunedin, This day. The fire has not yet been got out in tho Kaitangata coal mine, but it is hoped that work may be resumed within two or three days.
