Settlement on the Volunteer athletic sports takes place at the orderly room at 8 o'clock to-night. Ploughing matches under the auspices of the "SYuipawa County Association take place in Mr John Knight's paddock atKaikora to-morrow, commencing at 9.30 a.m. A public dinner at Mr Pcttit's hotel, Kaikora, at 5.30 p.m. will conclude the proceedings. Mr Lyndon, under instructions from Messrs Hoffman and Sons, sells a number of valuable pianos and musical instruments by auction without reserve at his mart at 11 a.m. to-morrow.

Tenders for leasing the Hastings Town Hall for twelve months must be sent in to Mr Beilby by noon to-morrow. Settling on the Petane races takes place to-morrow evening at Petane. Messrs Monteith and Co. sell tho lease of 30 acres first-class agricultural land, near Waverley Hotel, Taradale road, for term of from one to five years, at tho Horse Bazaar on Saturday. The Town Clerk invites applications from persons willing to perform the duties of impoundor to the Corporation. Messrs Monteith and Co. have a farm of 700 acres good land for sale. Mr C. E. Gibbons, Masonic Hotel, Napier, representative for Mr R. Cleave, of the Avenal and Remu Nurseries, Invercargill, has 10,000 cupressus macrocarpa, for immediate sale.

Mr Alexander Browne's clearing out sale is a great success, and the general slaughter of drapery and clothing is still on. Mr Chissell has a fresh supply of smoked fish, oysters, and fruit. Mr W. Harker has commenced business in premises next Messrs Banner and Liddie's as auctioneer, insurance and general commission agent. Mr Lyndon, at the land sale on Tuesday next, will sell two lots in the Ormondville township, with shop, dwelling house, and bakehouse thereon, the property of Mr J. Skinner Mr W. Harker has taken out an auctioneer's license for the current year. Mr D. C. Hitchman is selling lollies, &c, wholesale, at lowest rates, quality and purity guaranteed.
