SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.
AVellington, This day. An accident occurred on the tram last night. As the 0 o'clock tram was proceeding along Ingestre-street the pin of the SAvingle-free broke, and the lavo horses broke ayv.iy, pulling the driver over the splashboard. Tavo residents of Hainingstreet, named John Taylor and Joseph EcksAvorth, attempted to arrest tho progress of the horses, but both men yvere knocked doyvn, one of the horses falling on Taylor, yvho yvas badly injured and yvas taken to tho hospital, yvhere ho lies in a critical condition. EcksAvorth escaped Avith light bruises. Nelson, This day. A serious accident happened to Captain Whitwell, of the steamer Charles Ed-yard, yesterday. Tho steamer is undergoing repairs, and Captain AVhitwell is superintending the alterations. AVhile the donkey engine and boiler yvere being removed lie proceeded to render assistance to the men, an the boiler yvas slipping. His clothes caught, and ho yvas unable to escape being throAvn against the bulwarks, and sustained jl compound fracture of the right thigh. Two projections of the boiler also pierced the Hesh of the thigh to a considerable depth, great hemorrhage being the result.
