This day.
It is stated that Mr Shallcross, the gaoler here, is about to retire from that position. The Government are sending a chief warder in his place, and have granted him twelve months leave of absence, and he is to havo v retiring allowance. Mr Shailoross was chief of the Nelson police under the Provincial Government for thirteen years, and has held the office of gaoler since.
