THAMES.

September 18. The Imperial mine promisess to produce another magnificent return this month. There ia already lo cwt. of rich specimens on hand, with every prospect of large additions. A fortnight's crushing of general dirt with 37 stampers has given 1487 ounces of amalgam. A fire has been raging since Sunday morning in the old workings of the Caledonian mine at No. 1 level, in the vicinity of the famous run of gold, where thousands of tons of firewood have been utilised in filling up stops. It is likely to burn for some time, there being no means of checking the spread. The Waiotahi, Golden Crown, Caledonian, and other mines are prevented from working owing to a consequent rise of gas, and over 70 men are thus temporarily thrown out of employment.
