PRIESTLEY'S LECTURING TOUR.— A WARM OPENING.

Priestley, who was tried Avith Mrs Hamilton for the murder of the hitter's husband and acquitted, attempted the first of a series of lectures throughout the colony, under the auspices of an American agent, in the Onehunga Hall last night. A mob surrounded the hotel Avhere Priestley Avas stopping, and pelted him Avith eggs from the hotel to the ball, knocking off his hat. The hall was then besieged and assailed Avith showers of eggs. Priestley was afraid to leave tbe building, AA-hich avus surrounded by the mob, Avho voAved their determination to give him a Avarm reception. The light AA-as turned out in tho hall, and Priestley remained imprisoned there till 11.30 at night, Avhen the mob dispersed, and he effected his escape safely.
